Background

The EU social partners continue to address the role of social dialogue (European and national) in changing economies and societies. They are committed to providing the framework for the national social partners of the 27 member states and candidate countries to exchange examples of best practices and debate on the outcomes of the European social dialogue, as a way to influence the policy debate in line with both employers and trade unions, and labour markets’ priorities. In particular, social partners continue their joint work on promoting and reinforcing the EU social dialogue.

The European social partners will organise cluster seminars involving 3 or 4 countries at the same time. The aim of these seminars will be to facilitate capacity building for national social partners, with a facilitating role of EU social partner secretariats.

Objectives of the seminar

    • Present the latest outcomes of the European social dialogue and ongoing topics discussed at European level with national affiliates;
    • Increase knowledge of social dialogue and collective bargaining at national level in a comparative and proactive way, with separate workshops and reporting sessions;
    • Foster a common understanding of the role and contribution of social partners at both European and national levels;
    • Further identify capacity building needs as a way to achieve strong, representative, autonomous and mandated social partners organisations with the capacities needed to negotiate, thereby improving governance and policy making outcomes;
    • Monitor the implementation and follow-up of European social dialogue instruments.

Practical organisation

This seminar will gather social partners of Denmark, Ireland, Poland and Slovakia.

There should be a balance between trade union and employer delegations, and organisations should take gender balance into account when nominating participants. There are approximately 40 places available:

  • 20 participants for employer’s representatives (5 per country)
  • 20 participants for trade union’s representatives (5 per country)

The working language of the seminar will be English. Interpretation will be provided in Polish and Slovak (TBC).

BusinessEurope is in charge of the practical organisation on behalf of all European social partners. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.
