Gender equality in STEM and IT professions

Summary of the initiative

Intel is a company specialised in the manufacturing of chips, motherboards, software and other components of computers, computer networks and communication systems.

Intel has undertaken various initiatives on gender equality:

She will Campaign: Global Intel programme focuses on empowering girls and women around the world by fostering equal educational opportunities. Develop educational programmes that provide females with the opportunities for quality education and personal growth through technology access, scholarships and community learning programmes.

Women in Technology (WIT): To encourage a new generation of high-achieving women to pursue a career in STEM industry. Intel Leixlip provides a scholarship programme to five high-achieving, successful leaving certificate students each year. This scholarship offers students individual mentors, access to female Intel networks, summer placements/internships and funding for their undergraduate degree.

Cutting Edge Careers & The Inspiring Females Programme (successfully piloted this programme in 2012 with students from one school, broadening the programme for the first time in 2013): the aim is to educate students through informative, open discussions and encourage STEM careers.

Women Invent Tomorrow – Championing the role of women in STEM: Intel Ireland is a founding partner of this recently launched programme. Silicon Republic presents Women Invent Tomorrow, a year-long campaign in 2013 that will highlight the importance of closing the gender gap in Science and technology, as well as championing and profiling inspirational women as role models in the fields of STEM. Women from all STEM sectors will be profiled. These role models will be pushed out to an audience of over 250,000 every month through all Silicon Republic channels and on social media.

Women & Intel Network (WIN): The network enables career progression through quarterly networking events, where both internal leaders and external technical/business leaders and consultants share their experiences, learning’s and skills with WIN members.

Female Technical Leadership Programme (FTLP): The programme provides; Formal and informal opportunities to prioritise personal development and build their network. Bespoke workshops aimed at enhancing their leadership attributes and skills required their chosen career paths (e.g. leadership branding, coaching skills, WLB, etc.).
