“MINTrelation – Mädchen, Frauen und Unternehmen gestalten Zukunftsberufe” (STEM – girls, women and companies shape professions of the future)

Summary of the initiative

The project “MINTrelation – Mädchen, Frauen und Unternehmen gestalten Zukunftsberufe” (STEM – girls, women and companies shape professions of the future) pursues the objective of encouraging more women to join the next generation of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professionals and of improving the career opportunities for women in technical professions. It aims to support female technical talents.

The project has been built and is supported by the online community “LizzyNet”, the innovation network OWL MASCHINENBAU and the federation of German employers’ associations in the metal and electrical engineering industries (GESAMTMETALL), in the framework of the think ING. initiative, which is GESAMTMETALL's initiative for more young people in engineering studies and jobs. The target groups are schoolgirls aged between 13 and 17, specialised female workers and trainees, executives responsible for personnel recruitment and talent management in companies as well as policy-makers and the general public. “MINTrelation” creates a bridge between the involved parties.

A network of ambassadors with role model function is built up with intent to support female technical talents. One aim of the project is to improve the image of the STEM profession. Schoolgirls and ambassadors develop strategies and new promotional materials designed to attract more young women into a career in STEM professions.
